You’re a WHAT?

I just watched this:
A kid announces his atheism. Dad seems to grab a beer and sits down at the dinner table to discuss this clearly unexpected revelation.
But mom explodes and starts the typical threatening, cursing (f-word!) and yelling (way to go mom!!).
(Dad wisely stays out of it from now on).
Curiously, mom appears to think that Christmas is all about getting presents.
But what really got me (laughing) is the way how, probably, a sister or brother, sneakily video-taped the outburst and sneaks away when things get TOO hot…
Still .. a very sad display of bad parenting…

Well, this actually is worth commenting and I wonder why nobody else has yet.
We do wittness a real drama in which the mother does not know herself exactly what it means that her son is proclaiming himself an atheist as she obviously does not know exactly what it means to believe. So, its about getting or not getting presents? What seems to make her so angry is fear. Fear not to know what happens being an atheist, fear not knowing what it means to believe. And certainly fear due to the possibility that the neighbours will know sooner or later. Further more she notices that she has missed the point explaining christianism to her son competely.
The brothers clearly staged the situation. But I am sure they did not expect the complete helpless reaction of the mother.
I do not think that this is an example of bad parenting. I rather think that it is an example of failure. I agree that it is actually a very sad example ..

I agree that fear is a component in this drama, along with ignorance and intolerance.

I didn’t watch the video, but I think I will get a very similar reaction, but from both the parents, if I told my parents the truth 😀 Generation Gaps…
Oh, and do you get presents on Christmas? Lucky bastards…
