“Starting the fight (especially: for the wrong reason) almost ensured a global war in the future. The continuation of the fight now ensured it, I think”
Indeed, nearly impossible to “do right”… after done so much wrong.
To balance the above: the US just followed the trail blazed by the European colonial powers of the past centuries – the root of this problem imho. Just too bad they did not learn from history…
Oops – guess I commented too?
]]>But I think in this case (and in many cases like this) we are fucked. We can’t do right. We either let the bastards go, or we put them somewhere that we know they won’t be let go from.
I don’t agree with the torture part (not even sure I agree on what IS IS when it comes to torture. For me – no Internet. For a terrorist? I’m not so sure.)
And I would prefer we just legally killed them right up front. At least this jackass has an opportuninty to brag about his life’s accomplishments. The people in the WTC didn’t have that opportunity.
Personally, I am scared to death that most Americans are going to get exactly what a vocal portion (majority/minority – depends on how you ask it) seem to want – us pulling back and ignoring the nests these snakes breed in until they are powerful enough to strike us here again. With an improved ability to kill.
Quitting the fight now almost ensures a global war in the future, I think.
In any case, I commented.
