Tin #3 I recognize! I think this was "het snoep trommeltje", the most "stolen-from" tin in Dutch history!

My sister Riek noticed that her box (not a tin) of cacao, ALSO had the word “cacao” in English (“Cocoa”) on the other side.
She sent me these two pictures of it:

Of course, WE also have a tin! It’s not old, it’s not from Droste and it didn’t contain Cocoa/Cacao, but it IS Dutch. Moreover, it once (not for too long) contained stroopwafels, which makes it important enough for incorporation in this collection.

So, not to be left out, I also added my personal favorite container: It’s Dutch too, and unlike the Droste Cacao, it never gets very old either!

No comments on the nice ‘recursive’ picture with this post?

Inspired by the old Dutch Droste Cacao tins from when I was young …

Hm.. that’s interesting! The tin says: ‘Cocoa’. I would spell it ‘Cacao’!
And I pronounce it “Kakouw” (in Dutch).
Here in Florida, we live very close to a town called ‘Cocoa Beach’, and THAT is pronounced here as “Koko” Beach.

I once had one of those Droste “Cocoa” tins myself, but threw it away, probably when packing up for my move to the US, almost 17 years ago.

I asked my sisters if THEY still had one of those old Droste tins.

My sister Annemiek informed me that, as it so happened, she JUST threw one away yesterday. Drats!

My sister Rikie sent me a picture of a RECENT box (not tin) of Droste’s Cacao, where they DO indeed spell it “Cacao”.

My sister José, the pack rat of the family, indeed still had one and she sent me pictures of it, which solved the “Cocoa” – “Cacao” mystery!
“Cocoa” is English and is printed on one side of the tin, and “Cacao” is Dutch, and is printed on the other side!

My sister Ineke didn’t have a Droste tin, but she sent me pictures of a different brand of “Cocoa” and another other ‘old’ tin!
Hers also has the bilingual spelling of “cacoa”/”cocoa” on either side.

Twice a year would be just that: twice-yearly, also called ‘biannual’.

That is, formally speaking.
In the context of my blog postings it actually means: whenever I feel like, but not that often.
